SAVING – Developing new resources to educate about food security

SAVING consortium met for the third time – since the beginning of the project – on the 27th and 28th of March in Cyprus, hosted in the facilities of CSI (Center for Social Innovation) located in the city centre of Nicosia.

It was one and a half day of discussion about what has been done so far and the next activities to be implemented. Indeed, May is coming with the second training activity in Málaga, hosted by the coordinator of SAVING project: Asociación Arrabal-AID.

It will be an intense five-days training: each partner organisation is going to involve three local stakeholders – educators, trainers, teachers, social workers, community workers – with the aim to conduct the pilot test of SAVING e-learning platform. Moreover, we will have the opportunity to discover several good practices in Spain, which will help participants understand the benefits of combating food waste and the importance of raising awareness on the topic.

SAVING e-learning platform is divided into five modules, whose content has been tested during the first training event in Athens and finalised incorporating feedback from participants.

The following topics will be covered in the e-learning platform:

  • Sustainable environment, society and economy
  • Organic treatments and weather-based production
  • Socio-professional wellbeing of youth
  • Zero food waste
  • Definition of a sustainable strategy to reduce food waste

Each module will encompass activities to test users’ knowledge, as well as case studies, good practices and videos to show how the topics covered are linked to our everyday lives.

The added value of this training is to share learning practices, to exchange ideas and experiences, to share feedback between staff and participants involved and to deliver a training which adopts an innovative approach.
