SAVING first training event: #LEFTLOVERS community met in Athens

Food waste, food security, climate change and community development are the main core of SAVING project. About these topics, the consortium had the opportunity to learn with and provide training to educators, trainers and youth workers coming from Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Cyprus.

From the 12th to the 16th of December, project’s partners met in Athens – hosted by Athens Lifelong Learning Institute – with the main aim of involving local and foreign participants in the testing of modules and activities developed in the framework of SAVING project.

It was an intense five-days training useful to share good practices from each partner country as well as knowledge concerning five specific topics:

  • Sustainable environment, society and economy

  • Organic treatments and weather-based production

  • Socio-professional wellbeing of youth

  • Zero food waste

  • Definition of a sustainable strategy to reduce food waste

The activities were not only developed as face-to-face lessons. Thanks to the great support provided by Athens Lifelong Learning Institute, participants had the possibility to see and experience two local good practices, in terms of raising awareness about food security, environmental protection and education of youth: Organization Earth and Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

At Organization Earth, we acknowledged the potential of urban spaces devoted to the development of a deeper connection with nature, while at Stavros Niarchos Foundation more attention was payed to education of young people not only in academic terms, but mainly for what concerns culture and personal growth.

These training experience does not stop here! We will have another chance to meet in Malaga in May – hosted by the coordinator of SAVING project, ARRABAL AID – to test the final version of the platform and provide a new learning tool to educators, social workers, trainers and young adults at risk of social exclusion who want to educate themselves and others about the aforementioned topics, to be the engine of change!
