Successful engagement of young people in the labour market and society is crucial not only for their own personal economic prospects and well-being but also for overall economic growth and social cohesion. Newcoming migrants mostly face the difficulties in market labour and in socialization. Having appropriate work is the cornerstone of socialization and helps newcomers to feel full member of the society. Before arriving to this destination, they face problems on daily bases, such as language barrier, lack of information and trainings for preparing job market.
Newcomers@work is an Erasmus+ project aiming to help youths, of migrant/refugee background and around the age of 18-25, to get necessary skills, information, and trainings to make them ready for the job market. The general objective of the project is the social inclusion and empowerment of newly arrived young NEETs with a refugee or migrant background, through the improvement of their employability skills. As we strongly believe in the importance of accessible information, we have developed a comprehensive first newsletter that will serve as a valuable resource for participants. This newsletter will contain detailed information about the project, its goals, the training programs available, and the various support services provided. By ensuring that all necessary information is provided within this newsletter, we aim to minimize barriers for youth and empower them to become active and engaged members of society, promoting the fundamental values and ideology of the EU.
Cooperation among the partners was enshrined in the second transnational project meeting, held in the 28th of February and 1st of March2023, the NEWCOMERS@WORK partner organizations met face-to-face for the first time, in Amadora (Portugal), being hosted by AINOVA. During working days, we had the opportunity to get to know each other, to strengthen the partnership, and we managed to contour our actions for the 36 months of the project and discussed the common course of action related to the project.
In future 3 years, we have many activities planned for their safe future. We will focus on creating a safe space for the NEETS, providing training opportunities according to their needs, establishing their career goals and aspirations, preparing them to enter the labor market, and mentoring support in their first career steps.
