After more than two years of international collaboration, the EcoHoney – Achieve environmental sustainability through bee protection awareness, behavioural changes and farming conversion towards production of organic honey project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ KA220-VET programme, has officially come to an end.
Created to promote more sustainable beekeeping practices, strengthen pollinator protection and support beekeepers in the transition towards organic honey production, EcoHoney brought together educational institutions, universities, training providers and organisations from across Europe, building a network of expertise that will continue to generate value well beyond the project’s lifetime.
At a time when the decline of pollinators represents one of the most pressing environmental and agricultural challenges, EcoHoney has developed practical tools to encourage the adoption of more biodiversity-friendly production practices while creating new educational, professional and entrepreneurial opportunities for the beekeeping sector.
A Comprehensive Learning Path
One of the project’s main achievements is the creation of a comprehensive learning ecosystem designed for beekeepers, students, trainers, agricultural professionals and anyone interested in sustainable apiculture.
The partnership developed a structured training programme covering the key knowledge and skills required to build a modern, sustainable and market-oriented beekeeping business.
The learning programme includes modules on:
- Organic beekeeping;
- Biodiversity and pollinator conservation;
- Bee health and hive management;
- Organic certification;
- Nutritional and medicinal properties of bee products;
- Marketing of organic honey and hive products;
- Apitourism;
- European funding opportunities and business development for the beekeeping sector.
Each module combines theoretical knowledge, scientific evidence, practical examples, multimedia resources and self-assessment tools.
A Free E-learning Platform for Everyone
To ensure long-term accessibility, EcoHoney developed a free online learning platform that represents one of the project’s most valuable legacies.
The platform enables users to:
- Follow the complete training course online;
- Access high-quality educational materials;
- Complete self-assessment quizzes;
- Explore the digital library;
- Participate in the community forum;
- Watch educational videos and additional learning resources.
The platform will continue to serve as an open educational resource for everyone wishing to improve their knowledge of sustainable beekeeping and organic honey production.

Guidebook on Organic Honey Certification
A practical guide helping producers and stakeholders better understand organic honey certification procedures and requirements.
Manual for Trainers
A resource supporting educators and trainers in delivering EcoHoney learning materials through vocational education and training activities.
Interactive Digital Library
An online collection of scientific publications, case studies, videos, research papers and additional resources dedicated to sustainable beekeeping and pollinator protection.
Community Forum
A collaborative space designed to encourage knowledge exchange among beekeepers, students, researchers and professionals across Europe.
Newsletters, Brochures and Dissemination Materials
During the project, the partnership also produced newsletters, brochures, leaflets and a wide range of communication materials to disseminate project results and raise awareness about the importance of protecting bees and other pollinators.
European Cooperation Driving Sustainable Innovation
EcoHoney has demonstrated how European cooperation can successfully foster innovation within the agricultural sector by bringing together scientific expertise, practical experience and innovative educational methodologies.
The project has promoted a broader vision of beekeeping—one that goes beyond honey production to recognise bees as essential contributors to biodiversity conservation, ecosystem resilience and sustainable food systems.
The Project Ends, Its Legacy Continues
Although EcoHoney has officially reached its conclusion, its impact will continue through the educational resources, tools and knowledge developed during the project. These materials will remain freely accessible to beekeepers, trainers, students, researchers and anyone interested in sustainable apiculture.
