This research aimed to collect and identify currently used practices and also discover the willingness and interest of educators to increase their professional and personal capacities to adapt English teaching to Global Education purposes.

Handbook for Teaching the English Language with the HI-GLOBE Modules

The Guide is intended for all the educators who wish to equip their adult English students with knowledge and skills of a global citizen of the 21st century. The educational modules are designed to lead to the development and practice of different language skills, as well as expansion of personal skills, values, and attitudes (including CLIL, TBL, game-based learning, role-playing, and working with digital technologies and multimedia).

The HI-GLOBE project aims to fight the challenges identified by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, covering topics such as education for sustainable
development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.

In the process of looking for solutions for the identified challenges, the partnership found that there is a huge potential in language learning to support the education for sustainable development.

  • To enhance the potential of English-language learning for Global Educational purposes
  • To support individuals in acquiring and developing basic skills and key competencies
  • To extend and developing the competences of educators and other personnel
  • Collection, Identification and Analysis of the current practices and approach of the target groups related to Global Educational methodologies and the current tendencies to use CLIL and TBL methods, but also interactive, digital tools in their teaching.
  • Organisation of two piloting phases of the HI-GLOBE methodology, on levels A1-A2 and B1-B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
  • Analysis on the approach of English teachers in the adult sector on Global
    Educational methodologies in language teaching.
  • HI-GLOBE modules developed on 2 level (A1-2 and B1-2), each one including a 40 hours blended learning course serving Global Educational purposes and based on CLIL, TBL and interactive digital technology.

Results

  • Increased awareness on the approach and methodologies of Global Education in partner countries.
  • Increased competences of English teachers in the adult education field how to use English teaching for Global Educational purposes.
  • Increased English speaking skills of adult learners in a real intercultural context.
  • Increased awareness of wide range of stakeholders on Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Increased offer of services by adult education providers and more efficient European network by partner organisations.
