The RECHANCE project “Rehabilitation Approaches for Providing Former Prisoners with Personal Development and Society Entry CHANCEs” was launched in November 2020 with the primary objective of helping to improve participation, at the educational level, of former prisoners in society. The project involves six EU Member States: Czech Republic, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Ireland and Bulgaria, where partners with different profiles operate, including research centres, universities, social enterprises, non-governmental organizations, providing educational and social support to former prisoners to prevent the risk of social exclusion and marginalization. In Italy PRISM Impresa Sociale s.r.l. will manage the project.
During the next two years, the partners will develop and exchange ideas and knowledge on educational approaches and practices to be carried out, with the aim of promoting educational and learning pathways in favor of former prisoners across Europe, to support their reintegration into society.
The aim is to contribute, in a constructive and positive way, to overcome the obstacles that currently prevent former prisoners from training and participating in the communities in which they live; at the same time, the aim is to work in contact with the same professionals, both within the prison system and in the third sector, responding to their needs.
For these reasons, a wide range of educational materials and resources will be developed, including an app and they will be available for all those who work with former prisoners including educators, social workers and other professionals.
“We are embarking on this project to understand the needs of ex-prisoners on the one hand and to develop innovative educational materials that are adapted to their needs on the other” says Kateřina Kubrichtová from Romodorm(Czech Republic), the coordinating organization of the project.
